LoDo Real Estate

The LoDo neighborhood is one of the most historic Denver neighborhoods and LoDo stands for lower downtown Denver. As far as Denver real estate goes, this area has much to offer for those who want to be in a hip, exciting urban setting. The Lower Downtown Historic District was formed by the Denver City Council to preserve historic buildings and Denver homes and is the reason for the charm of LoDo today.LoDo is known for its success in revitalization and urban reinvestment. The neighborhood of LoDo is not just the oldest in Denver it is also where the original center of Denver was located.

LoDo has a rich history steeped in stories that take on a Wild Wild west effect. LoDo or the original Denver was founded in 1858 after gold was discovered in the South Platte River. The original Denver real estate consisted of a boundary of cottonwood logs laid out in a one mile square which is now the LoDo neighborhood. Very quickly LoDo became a center for carousing with its wild saloons and brothels. It was in LoDo where the famous story of the heads of the Arapahoe tribe was paraded around in victory. Of all the Denver neighborhoods, this one has the richest history and certainly the most interesting. In the 1870's as Denver grew there became the need for a rail line and after much wrangling, Union Station was eventually erected making LoDo or Denver, a strong western foothold. More and more people began to head to the town and set up their Denver homes.

LoDo enjoyed wild success, but like all railroad dependent areas became less and less relevant as airports and highways began to take hold. The area joined the list of Denver neighborhoods taken over by urban blight and Denver real estate in this area was mostly ignored. That is why its resurgence has been all the more poignant. Denver homes in LoDo enjoy the touch of history while the neighborhood retains a lot of its Wild Wild West ways. Almost as high profile as it revitalization is the excitement of its rebirth as an entertainment center and fervent ground for nightlife. LoDo is definitely one of the high profile Denver neighborhoods and continues recognition as the place to be.

Today, the landscape of Denver real estate in LoDo is of historic mixed use. The areas encourages mixed use plans and is B-7 zoned and includes height restrictions and historical limitations on revitalization geared at keeping up with LoDo's historic and high profile status. LoDo is a truly urban experience and offers a fun, exciting and convenient option for anyone to have their Denver homes.
