Benefits of Investing in Federal Heights Real Estate
The area and real estate of Federal Heights has a well documented history. The land was originally purchased in 1927 by an employee of the Colorado and Southern Railroad Company, Harvey Larsen. His plot of land consisted of 2 1/2 acres just north of Denver, Colorado. He bought this property that overlooked the Federal Boulevard (back when it consisted merely of a two-lane dirt road), for the bargain price of $1,000 and named it, aptly enough, Federal Heights. As the traffic increased on Federal Boulevard, Larsen decided to take advantage of the growing consumer market: he opened the North Federal Heights Grocery and Supply Station. The location where his store once stood is now the intersection of West 92nd Ave. and Federal Blvd.
In the decade, Federal Heights grew in size and in population. By 1937 there were an additional thirty three residents in the area. This caused a demand for drinking water, that Mr. Larsen was happy to supply. His well however, was mineral saturated, so in 1940 residents made the decision to incorporate. Afterward, they quickly drilled a new, clean drinking well which served the needs of the community until 1955.
Also in the same area, at the same time, Harry Ruston was making history by constructing the first privately-owned United States airport at 1000 N. Federal Blvd. The airport was equipped with an 8,000ft. runway, and was used by the United States Air Force for the training of hundreds of pilots during World War II. It only closed its doors in 1961 when Northborough, Federal Plaza, and Legacy Heights were developed.
