Founded back in 1954, the Applewood Knolls neighborhood is a prime piece of Wheat Ridge real estate that lies just west of Denver, Colorado. North of W.26th Avenue, the Applewood Knolls area has roots that span all the way back to the early 20th Century. During a time much like our current economic crisis, the Great Depression, Myron Bunger purchased in 1932 an 80-acre plot of land that centered on West 26th and Youngfield Street for a rock bottom price. A few years later a local farmer bought water rights from Myron in exchange for some apple tree saplings. Myron planted these on his land and this is where Applewood gained its name.
No longer an empty plot of woods, Applewood is now a shining example among Wheat Ridge homes. Most of the homes in Applewood Knolls are sitting on yards that span nearly an acre and provide shade from tall mature trees. These homes were mostly constructed between the late 1950's and the early 1970's. The average size of an Applewoood Knolls home is anywhere from 1,500 to 3,500 square feet. Homes may contain on average three to four bedrooms and two to three bathrooms. Though these homes are "of a certain age," most have undergone significant renovation and remodeling to appeal to more modern tastes and ideas of comfort. Residents of Applewood Knolls are provided with dramatic mountain views. Many have chosen to update their homes with hardwood floors, modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, and beautiful professionally landscaped yards.
